Hello, dear readers. This is David Zvi with a bit of an update.
As you’ve seen, JM has been a little quiet for the last couple of months. This has been for a couple of reasons.
First, and most obviously, there is the ongoing war. Despite having worked in the Jewish intellectual space for my entire adult life, I have never been drawn to conversations about Zionism, the future of the state of Israel, campus politics, etc. If someone had told me that I needed to weigh in on those things to do Jewish leadership, I probably would have run away and become an engineer. Instead, I have tried as much as possible to stay clear of those conversations. This war changed that for me—but that didn’t mean I instantly became an expert. I’ve spent a lot of time over the last few months testing out ideas with friends, trying to listen to people who know better, and endeavoring to understand how Israel, Palestine, Zionism, and antisemitism fit into the larger project in which I am engaged. Hopefully you’ll see some of the fruits of that in what appears here.
The second reason is that I have been retooling, and have some exciting updates.
The most important thing to know is that this site (which is staying at Substack for the moment, despite the platform’s moderation issues, because I can only deal with so many things at once) is going to a weekly publication schedule. There’s some great stuff in the pipeline, starting with tomorrow’s post, and I’m so excited to continue this sprawling conversation with you.
BUT WAIT—there’s more.
The return of Jello Menorah is part of a larger move to invest time and energy in the project of Jewish futurism and the conversation about religion and technology.
To that end, expect to see announcements in the next little while about a new podcast, a new YouTube channel, and some more things besides.
The best way to learn about those projects? Watch this space.
Thank you, all, for your generous reading. Talk soon.
Sounds exciting!
