How to Accelerate Jewish Thought
What, concretely, it takes to make Judaism a religion of the future
Dear readers,
This is a very short post whose purpose is to tell you to read my article, which appeared in the journal Sapir yesterday.
The piece is trying to do something grand. It doesn’t just insist that Jews must pay attention to the future, even in times of crisis. Instead, it details exactly how to get Jewish thought, Jewish leaders, and Jewish communities to do something they have never done before.
With projects like this, sometimes you write about pieces and sometimes you write about the big picture. This is the latter.
Please share it, and let me know what you think about it.
Happy Hanukkah!
Hanukkah-related content to check out
If you don’t know, I have a side business selling twenty-sided dreidels. This year there’s a gorgeous new version that’s only available here right now. There’s also a version very popular with kids that can be found all over the country.
If you missed last year’s post where I unearthed the origins of hanukkah gelt, you should check it out. It’s a pretty good story.
If the Hanukkah candles you light tonight are getting outshined by the lights for another holiday that is still weeks away, you’ll be glad to read that the cause is a mistake made by rabbis a century ago.
